Rat-bite fever, spirillary

Infection caused by a rat or mouse bite. Characteristics - wound heals promptly; inflammation recurs at bite site after 10 or more days, accompanied by relapsing fever and regional lymphadenitis; WBC elevated; myalgia, skin rash, chills, malaise, headache. Usual course - relapsing. Endemic areas - Asia; Europe; USA.
