Eosinophilic gastroenteritis


OVERVIEW:

A disorder characterized by infiltration of the mucosa of the small intestine by eosinophils, with edema but without vasculitis. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, fever, malabsorption. The stomach is also frequently involved. This disorder is commonly associated with intolerance to specific foods. Usual course: -chronic; recurrent.

CAUSES:

• food allergy
• idiopathic

TREATMENT


• exclusionary diets
• prednisone
