Anatomy of the Vagina
|
The vagina is a musculomembranous sac with rugations present during the reproductive years. The upper end is a blind vault into which the uterine cervix projects. The pockets of tissue around the cervix formed by the vagina are divided into the anterior, posterior, and lateral fornices. The posterior wall of the vagina is separated from the rectum by the rectovaginal septum. The anterior wall is separated from the bladder by the vesicovaginal septum.
